Promoting digital literacy among students

How important is digital literacy for students in present times? The answer can only be: paramount.

The reason for making students digitally aware is so they can engage with technology safely and responsibly. Let us start with understanding what digital literacy stands for – it refers to an individual’s digital awareness.

The need of the hour focuses on not only being aware of new technologies in society but also protecting oneself from any possible harm. With technology slowly becoming the essence of our daily life, it is also necessary to be aware of the challenges it has attached to it. To protect oneself from these, one needs to be acquainted with the changing technology.

There was an increase in various e-learning and virtual learning platforms during the time of the pandemic – primarily due to the fact that the whole world was solely dependent on technology. These platforms gained popularity as they enabled a student not only to alter their way of learning but made it more accessible and feasible.

A vital domain these platforms have to offer is their possibility of lifelong learning. As knowledge has no age bracket, we as a society often forget this and let our stereotypes be the judge.

Whether technology taking over is a positive change for our society or a negative one is a question many of us often think about. Undoubtedly, it has brought about a revolution in many areas due to its invariability in the past year.

There is one thing we all can agree upon is that technology has opened various doors for all; ranging from students to working professionals.

Technology has given rise to many offshoot careers which were formerly not significant, for example, numerous local artists have become popular through social media presence. Hence, today, various careers have emerged out of technology. Namely:

  • Digital marketing

  • Product designer
  • Digital copywriter
  • UX designer
  • Video editor
  • Animator
  • Social media manager
