Post Diwali, as the festivities come to an end, the Indian capital has transformed into a gas chamber owing to the heavy air pollution (smog). AT 6:30 AM on Friday, Delhi’s air quality was at 425 meaning in severe zone as reported by System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR). Delhi and National Capital Region saw the city get enveloped in a toxic haze as the air quality deteriorated.

Here are some tips to help you deal with the smog that has the national capital enveloped and terrified:

  1. Spend More Time Indoors: The simplest way of keeping away from the hazardous smog is through staying away from it. Limit your exposure to the smog by declining your outdoor time and spend more time indoors to keep away from smog. You can go out in evening when the air is slightly better and pollution is less. Use heavy curtains to prevent the outdoor air from coming in.
  2. Invest in Plants That Purify Air: In addition to using an air purifier to clean air, you can also use indoor plants to purify the air such as Aloe Vera, Tulsi, Dragon Tree, Peace Lily, Chinese Evergreen, etc.
  3. Mask Your Face: Wear a mask to control the air you breathe. Buy a good quality mask and wear it to ensure that micro level dust particles are filtered out when you breathe through the mask. Ensure that your children wear the masks before going out.
  4. Eat Healthy: Eat more Vitamin C, Omega 3 Fatty Acids rich food and include Jaggery in your diet as it helps in flushing out the toxins and pollutants from your lungs. Focus on eating healthy to fortify your body so you can beat the ill effects of the pollution. Stay hydrated with plenty of water.
