Behram’s masterpiece was the painting of the last leaf which was painted on the wall the night the last leaf of the ivy creeper fell. Sue declared it as a “masterpiece” firstly because no one would spot the difference between the actual leaf and the painted leaf, and secondly because such a painting was intended to save Johnsy’s life where the artist did not care about his own life.

Johnsy, a young artist was suffering from pneumonia. However, she related her life more to the leaves of the ivy creeper and declared that she would die when the last leaf fell. Therefore in no time, the medicines failed to have any effect on her.
It was rather her willingness to live which could cure her.

Behram was a sixty-year-old painter who wanted to create a “masterpiece” in his life. He was waiting for the right opportunity to give it a practical shape for long, but couldn’t. However when Johnsy fell ill, he could make his dream come true as he had painted the last leaf of the ivy creeper on the wall the night the last leaf fell which could not be differentiated from the actual leaf.

The feeling of depression is common among the teenagers. Many teenagers do not have the courage to face the harsh realities of life because they are over protected by their parents. Parents provide enough and more material things and comforts to their children and once they fail to get such things they fall into depression. We hear about teenagers taking extreme steps for failing in the examinations, for not being provided the latest gadgets, etc.
