There are different ways and means to bring some important matter into the attention of the public. We can advertise the matter in a newspaper or magazine. We can give an advertisement on television, radio, internet or any other media. We can paste notices on walls or notice boards. Sometimes we may use posters to pass information on to the public.
A poster is any piece of printed paper designed to be attached to a wall or vertical surface. Typically posters include both textual and graphic elements, although a poster may be either wholly graphical or wholly text. Posters have the qualities of both advertisements and notices.
They don’t follow a strict grammatical pattern like advertisements. Like notices there is a lot of emphasis on eye catching layout. Posters are used for creating general awareness and to spread social messages. They are also used to announce some events of common interest. A good poster should have a relevant title, catchy slogans and also visuals appropriate to the theme. Venue, date, time, occasion, purpose etc. should be clearly mentioned in the poster
It should be very attractive and easily readable from a certain distance. The size of the text should be bold and explicit. It may focus on help or action, warning or caution, appeal or awareness, etc.
