Letter - Formal
With the advent of emails, it has become less common to write letters, but there are no second thoughts about the fact that letters still act as a strong medium of communication, no matter howsoever few they are written. Letters speak volumes about a person so it is important that they should have the desired effect on the reader.
The purpose of writing a formal letter is to make a complaint, request something or make an enquiry. These are also known as business letters and include letters to government officials and letters to editors. The tone of such letters is usually polite, formal, impersonal and to-the-point. It is advisable to avoid using contractions. When writing a formal or business letter, the presentation style and the format is the key to making a good impression because in a business set up, it is understood that the reader will have a limited amount of time to read it.
