OpenOffice.org Writer - I

Word Processor is a software program capable of creating, storing and printing documents. It processes textual matter and organises documents. OpenOffice.org Writer is a powerful tool for creating professional documents, reports, newsletters and brochures. The document window contains major components such as Title bar, Menu bar etc.

By default, the new document will be saved as a OOo Writer document with an extension .odt (ODF Text Document). To close a document select Close from File drop down menu and the document file will be closed. To exit from Writer, choose Exit from File drop down menu. The Open Office writer document covers the Undo command and the basic editing functions of selecting, moving and deleting text. To insert new word, Insert Mode should be ON. Place the cursor at the desired position and type the text that needs to be added. To overtype some word, Insert Mode should be OFF.

Character formatting includes fonts and font-sizes, text attributes and text positioning etc. It plays an important role in enhancing the appearance of the document. The OOo Writer offers four types of text alignments, left flush, right flush, centered and justified. To indent a paragraph in a Writer document, select the paragraph and from the dialog box, active the Indents & Spacing tab.
