Write Speech in about 250-300 words on the topic ‘There is no point in running away from technology’.

    Marks:10
    Answer:

Venerable principal, distinguished teachers and my dear school mates. Today, I stand before you to deliver a speech on a very interesting topic which I am sure will be of concern to everybody present here. I would like to address this gathering on the topic – "There is no point in running away from technology."

Technology, as we know, is evolving every minute. What is considered amazing today can easily become passé tomorrow. Telephone was one of the greatest inventions made by mankind. Today, however, cell phones have become the vogue. Similarly, the typewriter has given way to computer which takes care of most of man’s needs. As the years go by, we will surely witness more startling technological breakthroughs. In view of all this, those who aren’t tech-savvy really need to think whether their aversion for technology is justified.

Technology is the bugbear of many a people, especially those who do not study science. Such people will give lame excuses to justify their stand. One of the most common excuses that one hears from the tech-averse is that anything involving technology is complicated. This lot would rather visit a bank than do an online transaction. The bottom line, however, is that people’s fear for technology is baseless. Dealing with technology requires patience. It is akin to learning how to drive a car. One just has to be mindful of all the steps. Indifference to technology comes from mental block which needs to be done away with.

Scientists introduce new technologies so that we may be benefited. We will abuse their efforts if we do not make use of their inventions. Technology makes our life simpler. Those who are still skeptical just need to have a chat with a credit card holder, net banker or a simple citizen. Running away from technology is a grave mistake.

You are Vivian/Veronica. You are feel that only education can bring about a change in the life of millions of poor people in the Zululand society. Write a speech in 150 – 200 words to be delivered in the social welfare camp conducted in the countryside by your school, on the power of education in bringing about social change.

    Marks:10
    Answer:

    Dear parents, teachers and friends,

The great South African leader and anti apartheid activist and Nobel Laureate Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

I am Vivian Richards, from St. Joseph’s Academy, standing here to share my views on the importance of education in bringing about changes in the society.

If we look at any society in the world which is prosperous and civilized, we will all approve the fact that education is the power and the secret behind their prosperity. Look at all the developed nations where people live a dignified life. All the citizens of those countries have access to good education.

On the other hand, the vast majority of poor people in the under developed countries are illiterate and uneducated. They are exploited by their cruel masters and live a life of servitude. They are subjected to poverty, unemployment, superstitions, corruption, brutality and are cheated.

The only solution for this sickness is education. Education is light; it will enlighten our darkness. It is power that will bring hope of deliverance. One will be empowered to stand on one’s own feet, break fetters and demand justice from the cruel masters.

The most powerful weapon, man has ever invented is ‘WORDS’. Words are more powerful than guns, swords or even atom bomb. One can change the society only giving education. Dark forces who want to perpetuate evil are afraid of education.

Let us strive to get the best education possible and serve the society by imparting the best education in children for the desired social changes in our country .

    Thank you.

You are Amy/Ashley. You strongly believe that strong laws should be made to ensure the safety of woman in the society. Write a speech in about 300 words to be delivered in a public assembly on the need of strong laws to curb the attacks against women.

    HINTS:

Steep rise in horrible atrocities committed against women in the society – many unreported cases – reasons – pending cases before courts – light punishment given to the criminals – solutions – formation of value based personality? – pointlessness of the suggestion – fool proof laws and hard punishments – pressurize the government

    Marks:10
    Answer:

    Dear friends,

I am Amy, a Grade XI student of St. Anthony School, Berlin.

We were all horrified to read about the atrocities committed against women in many parts of the country recently. Official and unofficial surveys show that the crimes against women are on the increase.

Untold cruelty is meted out to numerous women and I believe only very few stories of suffering are coming out through the media because most of the victims prefer to keep their agony hidden for fear of losing their reputation.

We see that millions of such cases are pending in various courts of our country. It takes years to give verdict in a harassment case and in many cases the accused walks away free or is awarded very light punishments.

In this scenario, I strongly feel that stringent laws should be enacted to make sure that the culprits are punished properly. The government should make sure that the loopholes are sealed cleverly in the laws and the culprits are punished properly.

We can’t expect everyone to have a dignified personality. I too agree with the argument that formation of a good personality is the permanent solution to atrocities committed against women. But it is an impossible task or it will take an ample amount of time. Till then what should we do? Shut ourselves inside the house? No! Harsh punishment will act as a deterrent. Fool proof laws and a mechanism that is dedicated to the implementation of those laws will only make desired changes in the society.

Let us not stop our agitation till the government takes adequate steps for the fulfillment of our demands.

    Thank you.

The use of the Internet is becoming very popular in every sphere of life. On the basis of reading the news item given below, write a speech in about 200 words emphasizing the advantages of the Internet in the field of education.

HINTS: For the coming school-based assessment for Grades IX and X, the school board has decided to send the question papers to schools online for the first time. According to Mr. Jacob, secretary of School advisory committee, the main advantage of this system is that confidentiality of the papers could be maintained even if schools scheduled an examination on different dates.

    Marks:10
    Answer:

    Dear friends,

“The Internet, like the steam engine, is a technological breakthrough that changed the world.”

I am Marie Abraham, standing before you to speak on the advantages of internet in the field of education.

Peter Singer rightly points out through the above quote, the importance of internet in every sphere of life in the modern world. Everything is controlled by the internet. Can you think about the banks, the air traffic, railways, offices, stock exchanges and business functioning without internet?

We have to make use of this great power of the internet in the field of education. Information technology has made available the treasure of information on our finger tips. With the help of internet we can access an ocean of relevant knowledge within no time.

Printed books have a limitation. They become outdated within no time because information is continuously being updated.

Education has become very interesting with the introduction of “Smart Classes’ and interactive boards. The students can access all the relevant information from their homes and clarify their doubts through online conference, chat etc.

Limitations of time and space can be overcome with the help of internet. Online tests and coaching will reduce the financial burden of the parents.

Gone are the days when teachers used age old notes and instructions in the classes. Information technology challenges everyone to be well prepared and competitive.

We should not be left behind in this revolution but be in the front row to harvest the benefits of internet in our educational endeavors.

    Thank you.

Parents usually concentrate only on the intellectual development of their children and neglect their cultural and sports education. This habit affects adversely the performance of students in arts and sports and impairs their talents. Write a speech in about 300 words using the notes given below, to be delivered in your school assembly, highlighting the “Importance of Arts and Sports in School Curriculum”. You may include relevant details.

    HINTS:

Need for holistic development - problems of disproportionate development – parents preoccupied with academic excellence – do not promote the talents – holistic meaning of education – awareness to the parents – career options in arts and sports - arts and sports festivals – encourage the students

    Marks:10
    Answer:

Honourable Principal, Teachers and My Dear Friends

I, Jacqueline Joseph of Grade XI, would like to present my views on the “Importance of Arts and Sports” in proper development of a student’s personality.

Have you not seen caricatures depicting aliens from space who are scientifically more advanced than us? Some of them have a very big and disproportionate head in comparison to the rest of their body.

That is exactly the result of an education devoid of cultural, psychological and physical aspects. Education should aim at the wholesome development of an individual.

Nowadays many parents underestimate the value of cultural and physical aspects of education. They do not appreciate and promote the talents their children have in arts and sports.

If a child concentrates only on studies he/she will become an abnormal figure whose head is grown enormously but the rest of the body is stunted.

Every person is born with natural talents. Education should help develop these talents. It is wrong to think that education is entirely about the study of Science, Mathematics or Literature. Proper education aims at the developments of natural talents.

Parents are preoccupied with the future career options for their children. They should be given proper information about promising careers in the field of arts and sports. Then they will stop pestering their children with the old slogan, “study…study…. and…. study”

We should make every effort to give awareness to the parents in this regard. The school should give ample opportunity to develop talents in arts and sports. To this end ,we have to conduct arts and sports festivals and find ways and means to promote the talents in arts and sports. Those who have talents in these fields should recognize them and voluntarily come forward to express them utilizing all the opportunities provided to them.

    Thank you.
