An old blind man was sitting on a busy street corner in the rush-hour, begging for money. On a cardboard sign, next to an empty tin cup, he had written: 'Blind - Please help'…..

    Marks:25
    Answer:

Nobody even noticed him, let alone giving him any money.

In the meanwhile, a young advertising writer walked past and saw the blind man with his sign board and empty cup. She also noticed that many people passed by completely unmoved.

She took out from her bag a thick marker-pen, turned the cardboard sheet back-to-front, wrote something on it, said a ‘bye’ to the blind man, and went on her way.

After a few minutes the blind beggar could feel the tin cup being filled with money. Perplexed, the blind man stopped a stranger and asked him what was written on the sign board.

"It says," said the stranger, “It's a beautiful day. You can see it. I cannot.”

The blind man, amused and grateful at the same time, took the cup and his stick, and started walking.

    Write a story titled, ‘Grandfather’.

    Marks:25
    Answer:

A frail old man lived with his son, daughter-in-law, and a four-year old grandson. The family ate together at the dinner table. But the elderly grandfather's shaky hands and failing sight made eating rather difficult. Often he spilled milk on the tablecloth. The son and daughter-in-law became irritated with the mess. So the husband and wife set a small table in the corner.

There, grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner at the dining table. Since grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was served in a wooden bowl. The four-year-old watched it all in silence.

One evening the father noticed his son making something with a wooden plank. He asked the child sweetly, "What are you making?" Just as sweetly, the boy responded, "Oh, I am making a little bowl for you and mama to eat your food from when I grow up."

The words made them speechless. That evening the husband took grandfather's hand and gently led him back to the family table.

Two friends, Sam and Max were walking through the desert. During some point of the journey they had an argument, and Max slapped Sam on the face. Sam was very upset and hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in the sand: "TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME."

They kept on walking until they found an oasis. They decided to take a bath there. While bathing, Sam got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but Max saved him without caring about his life. After he helped Sam come out of the mire, he saw him writing on a stone: "TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE." Max asked Sam what did that mean.

Sam replied: "When you slapped me, I wrote it on sand where winds of forgiveness could erase it away. But, when you saved my life, I wrote it on stone where no wind can ever erase it." Max hugged his dear friend and apologized for slapping him.

Write an original short story based on the theme: Forgiveness

    Marks:25
    Answer:

Tom and John were inseparable friends. They were neighbours and they grew up together. Their families also maintained a friendly relation. Tom and John used to go to school and come back together. One day while coming back from school they played hide and seek. John hid behind a tree. Tom searched for him. He noticed John hiding behind the tree and quietly went to him and slapped playfully on his shoulder saying he had found him.

The slap hurt John’s pride. He expected that Tom would apologise to him for hurting his feelings. But, Tom didn’t take it seriously. He did not apologise and both went home without talking to the other.

The next day as he got ready to go to school John went to Tom’s house. But, there was an afterthought in his mind.

“Why should I go and call him,” he thought. He wanted Tom to apologise to him. Tom also had the same feelings. He thought that he did not hurt John knowingly. They were only playing. So why should he go and apologise?

Days went on. Both of them felt very bad. They couldn’t remain without talking to each other for long. At last Tom’s mother noticed something was wrong with Tom.

“What happened to you? Why are you looking gloomy?” She asked Tom. Tom told her everything that had happened.

“Oh, such a silly matter,” her mother commented, “but, if you don’t resolve it now it will grow into something serious that you won’t be able to solve easily in the future.

Tom agreed. Mom asked him to go immediately to John’s house and rekindle their friendship.

He went to John’s house. John was watering the plants in the garden.

“I’m sorry John,” said Tom, tears welling up in his eyes.

John couldn’t control either. He came running to Tom and both of them hugged each other.

“Don’t worry Tom,” said John. “I was suffering a lot in my mind as we were not talking to each other.”

“Oh, I’m happy now. How much have I suffered without you,” said Tom.

Both the friends walked in the garden holding their hands. Tom’s mother looked at them and smiled.
