The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is rewriting the rules of teaching- literally. The Board’s latest directive mandates professional development for educators across all affiliated schools. Teachers and school leaders are now required to complete 50 hours of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) annually, spanning national programs and school-based initiatives.

CBSE aims to build a future-ready teaching force by enhancing skills, encouraging innovation, and aligning classrooms with NEP 2020 goals. This mandate ensures teachers stay updated, confident, and equipped to deliver high-quality, inclusive, and engaging learning experiences.

CBSE has chosen STEM Education as this year’s training theme. Based on this theme, schools are encouraged to hold District Level Deliberations (DLDs) to exchange ideas and boost innovation - moving beyond textbooks to real-world applications and critical thinking. The training dives into three priority areas:

To help you understand this better, here’s a breakdown of CBSE’s 50-Hour teacher training policy:

Track Progress

Schools are required to digitally log each teacher’s training hours. Teachers should maintain their own record too, it helps in performance reviews and career progression.

By prioritizing teacher development, CBSE is investing in the future of education. This mandate gives every educator the chance to refresh skills, embrace modern pedagogy, and become a changemaker in their school community - one hour, one training, one breakthrough at a time.
