Jee Main Chemistry

JEE Main Chemistry is one of the most interesting yet tough subjects in JEE preparation. The questions are thought-provoking and help you test your understanding of different concepts. The subject includes sections like organic chemistry, physical chemistry, and inorganic chemistry. The JEE Main Chemistry syllabus is quite vast and includes topics that are not taught in the class 12 chemistry curriculum.

If you are a JEE Main aspirant, then this blog is for you. We have compiled a list of the 10 most complex topics in JEE chemistry, from organic chemistry to inorganic chemistry, so that you can get an idea of what’s coming your way.

1. Equivalent Concept:

It is one of the most engaging topics included in physical chemistry. An equivalent is the amount of an element that is equivalent to or reacts with an arbitrary amount (typically one mole) of another element in a given chemical reaction. It is useful in stoichiometry calculations and is more efficient than mole analysis. An equivalent is the archaic unit measurement used in chemistry and biological sciences. Its concepts are one of the most difficult to understand as many factors play an important role in determining its value.

2. Electrochemistry:

“Electrochemistry is the study of chemical reactions that involve electric currents.” Electrolysis, electromotive force, oxidation-reduction reaction are some examples of electrochemistry. The subject involves understanding the concepts related to electrical energy and how it can be utilized for various applications like batteries or fuel cells. It also includes topics on corrosion inhibition. The JEE chemistry syllabus includes a chapter on electromotive force and electrochemistry. The concepts are quite difficult, however, once you understand the basics, this is an easy-to-score topic. The questions asked from this section are mostly application-based that makes it a high scoring area.

3. Ionic Equilibrium:

Ionic equilibrium is the state of balance between an ionic compound and its ions. It results in electrically neutral products when they dissolve or react with water. The ionization constant, which determines the degree of dissociation (ionization) that occurs in aqueous solutions at any given temperature, also decides whether there will be electrical neutrality on dissolution/reaction with water. Since it’s one of the topics included under JEE mains chemistry syllabus, it is important to determine how to solve these questions easily by understanding key concepts like Ksp value and pH value calculations, etc.

4. Inorganic Chemistry:

Inorganic Chemistry is another important segment in chemistry as it is an easy to score concept from the JEE point of view. Inorganic reactions involve chemical changes where elements come together to form compounds under different conditions. This subject plays an important role for students preparing for their JEE main exams because a lot of questions based on this topic are asked in JEE owing to the chapter’s importance.

5. Organic Chemistry:

Organic chemistry for JEE mains is one of the most difficult sections in the chemistry syllabus due to its vastness and complexity. Organic reactions involve chemical changes where atoms come together to form molecules. The concept of functional groups plays a very crucial role when it comes to providing proper explanations for organic questions asked during exams. Different concepts have exceptions within organic chemistry and a lot of questions are asked from these parts making them immensely important. .

6. Gaseous State:

Gases are substances that have neither a fixed shape nor definite volume. They spread to fill the available space and hence, take up the shape of their container i.e., they do not possess any specific boundaries or shapes, unlike solids or liquids which tend to keep a constant boundary because of their strong intermolecular forces. The JEE chemistry syllabus includes topics on atmosphere, kinetic molecular theory, gas laws, ideal gas equations, etc under this topic, making it one of the most important chapters for students preparing for JEE Main exam.

7. Thermodynamics:

Thermodynamics is the study of heat and its relation to other forms of energy. It deals with topics on temperature, internal energy, heat transfer, etc., which are important aspects to understand when one wants to solve questions asked in JEE Main exam related to this topic. The laws of thermodynamics are divided into different categories, including Law Of Conservation Of Energy, Zeroth Law, first law, second law of thermodynamics, Boyle’s Gas Laws, and Charles’ Gas Laws.

Conclusion

These are some of the hardest topics included in JEE Main Chemistry. You must pay special attention to these topics to ensure your success in this subject. You must learn important concepts and formulae of each topic so that you can attempt questions on these topics during exams with ease. Most importantly, go through the JEE mains 2020 chemistry chapter-wise questions to get an idea of what you should be expecting in the exam.
