A kid to Kota.

A deep dive into the immense pressure faced by students studying in Kota and for schools emerging as a viable alternative for competitive exam preparation.

The IIT and medical exams are considered to be one of the toughest exams in India. Every year, lakhs of students from across the country flock to Kota – the coaching capital of India – to prepare for these exams.

However, there are several problems that these students face while studying in Kota.

Huge financial burden

Financial problems are a common occurrence for students studying for IIT and Medical exams in KOTA. The cost of living in KOTA is high, and many students come from families who are not able to support their studies.

As a result, many students are forced to take out loans in order to cover their costs. Loans can be a helpful way to cover the costs of studying, but they can also create a financial burden. Many students find themselves unable to repay their loans, and as a result, their credit scores are damaged. This can make it difficult to get a loan in the future, and it can also make it difficult to find a job after graduation.

Homesickness & missing support system

One Student many emotion

Most students who come to KOTA are from small towns and villages. This is their first time away from home, and they are not used to living in a big city. The initial days can be very tough for them, as they miss their families and friends back home.

There are various reasons why students feel homesick. Firstly, they are away from their support system, which includes their family and friends. Secondly, they are not familiar with the new place, and it takes time to adjust to the new surroundings. Thirdly, the competition in KOTA is very tough, and students often feel stressed and anxious about their studies.

High levels of stress & anxiety

KOTA is also infamous for the high levels of stress and anxiety that its students face. The pressure to perform well in these exams is immense, and many students find it difficult to cope. This can lead to a range of mental health problems, including depression, anxiety, and even suicidal thoughts.

One of the main reasons for this is the competitive nature of the coaching industry in KOTA. There are hundreds of coaching institutes, all vying for students’ attention and fees. This leads to a lot of pressure on students to perform well.

Another reason for the high levels of stress is the intense pressure that students feel to get into a good engineering or medical college. The competition is so stiff that many students feel that they have to put their entire lives on hold for two years in order to prepare for these exams.

Many students also come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, and the pressure to succeed is even greater.

Can Schools Emerge as Viable Alternative to Coaching Institutes

While parents are keen to provide their children with the best possible preparation for these exams from home, they are also mindful of the fact that coaching institutes in Kota offer a quality of education that cannot be replicated by schools.

This is due to the lack of qualified and specialist teachers, limited digital infrastructure and facilities, and other factors. As a result, many parents are now looking for those schools that do offer quality competitive exam coaching at a reasonable price.
