A Few Glimpses of Class 3 EVS Chapter 19
Chapter 19 of Class 3 EVS curriculum is divided into two sections. The first portion teaches us how to care for animals, while the second section is a fable that teaches us not to disrupt the natural cycle for our own selfish desires.
The chapter is presented in the form of a few short stories which are summarised here. In the beginning, students in a classroom witness a little sparrow being injured by the classroom fan. Peter carefully patts the bird that he has taken up in his palms. Other kids bring a bowl of water. They place the bowl near the bird’s beak. The bird drinks a small amount of water before flying away. The children notice the bird soaring in circles above them the next day. They promptly turn off the fan to avoid further injury to the bird. The bird returns to express gratitude to the children by saying thank you to them.
Shankar has a thing for kitties. Four little kittens had been born to a cat. In his spare time, he used to spend time with them. He overheard the mother cat sobbing one day. Shankar hurried up to her and discovered one of the kittens had vanished. Malini was petting the kitty when he looked around. Shankar requested that she return the kitten to the mother cat, who was in pain. Malini felt terrible when she saw the cat weeping. She gave her kitten back.
Bholi is Meenu’s cow. Every day, she brings her cow to the field to graze. A speeding scooter collided with the cow, severely injuring her leg. Blood was oozing out of her leg profusely. Meenu dialled her family’s number. Bholi was transported to an animal hospital. The wound was checked and treated by the doctor. The doctor then wrapped a bandage around the wound.
Chandu Dhobi also looks after his donkey. He bathes him and feeds him freshly cut grass. He is devoted to his pet.
The narrative of a princess who loves mangoes can be found in the second section of NCERT Solutions EVS Chapter 19. Her gardener brought her some delicious mangoes one day. He explained to the princess that there could have been more mangoes, but that the parrots had eaten most of them. The princess became enraged and told the gardener to keep the parrots out of the garden. When the gardener brought the mangoes the following year, the princess was furious to see how few there were. They were lesser than the previous year. The gardener said that he prevented the parrots from visiting the garden, causing the mangoes to be eaten by insects.
If he hadn’t stopped the parrots, the insects would have been devoured by the birds, and there could have been more mangoes.
