Introduction to the Exam:

The Joint Entrance Exam is an assessment examination in India conducted by National Talent Academy (NTA) for students aspiring for admission to the country’s most prestigious engineering and architectural colleges. Every year, students appear for this examination in large numbers. This national level exam is conducted in two different phases – JEE Main and JEE Advanced.

The admission procedures commence with JEE Main. Clearing JEE main is the stepping stone for admission to the top colleges and institutions, including 31 NITs, 27 GFTIs, 23 IITs, and 18 other CFTIs spread across the country. In addition, students who have cleared JEE Main become eligible to appear for the JEE advance examination. The JEE Main entrance exam is one of the most challenging examinations and requires hard work and determination.

Students who have cleared Class XII in Mar’2021 or are appearing for the 2022 board examinations would be eligible to apply for JEE Main 2022.

JEE Main 2022 – Preparation Tips and Do’s and Don’ts:

Students who aspire to appear for the JEE Main entrance examination face difficulty preparing for the boards and the entrance examination simultaneously. However, it might be difficult initially, but with consistency, innovative time planning, and persistence, a student can achieve their goal with flying colours.

Tips and Do’s and Don’ts for JEE Main Preparation:

  1. Know the syllabus
  2. Understand the paper pattern
  3. Manage your time wisely
  4. Use best reference books
  5. Understand important concepts
  6. Practice mock tests/ Sample papers/ previous years’ question papers
  7. Be consistent and committed to the process.
  8. Always attempt the easy and medium level questions first as they have the same marks but consume less time.
  9. Do not get anxious while solving questions. If unable to solve a particular question, students must move on to the next one without wasting more time & energy on one question.

Those appearing for the upcoming entrance exams should focus on completing the syllabus and practising maximum questions. It is recommended that students start preparing for the JEE Main Exam well in advance. Starting early strengthens students’ memory and increases their grasping ability. In addition, the preparation time of two years allows students to concentrate on weaker sections and time management skills.

Strategic Plan for JEE Main Exam – Section-wise Pointers

JEE Main is highly competitive. Therefore, candidates need to have smart preparation techniques and hard work and determination. Below are a few subject-wise approaches to assist students with their exam paper solving:

    • Mathematics: For the last three years, the level of questions asked in the Mathematics section has been easy to moderate. Topics such as Vector 3D, Determinants, Matrices are a few high-scoring topics.
      • Students can score 45-50 marks if they attempt 20 Mathematics questions with 65% accuracy. And attempt integer questions vs single-choice questions.
    • Physics: Physics has been the toughest subject for the last 4-5 years. The numerical questions of the Physics paper were usually from class eleven, whereas the concept-oriented questions came from class twelve. As a result, many questions were long and tricky.
  • Chemistry: Chemistry has historically been easier and students have a higher chance of scoring high in this subject as compared to the other  two subjects. Organic and Inorganic section questions are usually based on the concepts and directly correlate with respective options. So, focus more on these sections first for getting more correct answers.

Our expert team has analysed several past papers from the last ten years and have collated below tabular view for showing the important chapters and their weightage based on the number of questions asked and the associated marks.

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

1. Is there any change in JEE Main 2022 syllabus?

No. The NTA has published the JEE Main brochure that includes the syllabus and all other details about the examination. The syllabus lists all the chapters on which questions will be asked in the exams. The syllabus also includes essential concepts and topics that should be given high priority during the Preparation of the exams. For JEE Main 2021, the MHRD announced a 30% reduction in CBSE class XI and XII portions. This led to changes in chapter weightage. However, there is no official announcement related to it for JEE Main 2022. Therefore, as of now, the syllabus for JEE 2022 remains the same.

2. Will JEE Main 2022 be postponed?

This year the examination is delayed due to the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic and the assembly elections in five states. However, the official announcement from the National Testing Agency (NTA) is out now. The first session will be in April, and the second session in May. The candidates appearing for JEE 2022 are advised to check the official website to get the latest updates.

3. How is the JEE Main exam different from the JEE Advanced?

The primary difference between the two is that JEE Main is the entrance exam for admission to IIITs, NITs and GFTIs, whereas JEE Advanced gives one admission in IIT institutes. JEE Main is the entry-level exam that has to be cleared before one gets selected for JEE Advanced. Candidates securing the top 2,50,000 ranks in JEE Main are qualified to apply for JEE Advanced.

The other difference is the complexity and difficulty level of questions in JEE Advanced is much higher and requires a thorough understanding of concepts. Also, no question has been repeated in JEE Advanced. Therefore, students can always depend on Extramarks for their preparation for JEE entrance examination. The solutions of the question papers provided by the experts at Extramarks are incredibly accurate with proper explanations. Moreover, the concepts are very well explained in easy language.

4. Is reading NCERT necessary for JEE?

Preparation for the JEE Main entrance examination is about getting the basics correct. The NCERT books will help get the basics of every subject cleared. JEE Main and Advanced question papers consist of several questions directly picked from the NCERT books. In addition, multiple-choice questions are often asked from the paragraph’s text. Hence, you are required to undergo the entire chapter very well to address those questions.

Every chapter of the NCERT books has a summary on the last page. The summary could be very crucial when the exams are concerned. In summary, each critical topic is covered. It is the quality way to revise the complete chapter briefly. With the assistance of NCERT solutions, students can solve each problem in JEE and score top ranks. Also, it is far easier to quickly revise essential concepts with the summaries given in NCERT textbooks.

The bottom line? NCERT books are amongst exceptional books for JEE Main. If you want to clear the JEE 2022, you can find helpful JEE preparation and study material, including NCERT solutions, at Extramarks.

5. Is the JEE Main exam online or offline?

Many examinations have revamped the exam structure to their online mode. For example, JEE Main has been recently shifted to the online mode. This year as well, the exam will be conducted online only.

The computer-based test has the following benefits:

  • First, it is time-saving: In offline mode, students were required to fill the OMR sheet, whereas, in online mode, candidates just select the option on the screen and proceed to the next one.
  • Rectify errors: Online mode of the examination allows candidates to change their answers, whereas in the offline paper, the answer cannot be changed once it is marked.
  • Don’t miss out on any questions: The panel of different colours indicates the unanswered questions, answered questions, and questions marked for review.

Except for the drawing paper for B. Arch, all the papers will be conducted online.

6. Is there any difference in the syllabus for JEE Main and JEE Advanced?

Yes, there is a difference in the syllabus between JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Below is a summary of a few of the topics that are included or excluded from JEE Advanced.

Subject JEE Advanced Syllabus

Topics excluded from JEE Main

JEE Advanced Syllabus

7. What will be my rank if I score 300 in JEE Main?

JEE ranks are declared after the result is displayed for the final round. The rank in JEE Main depends on the number of candidates appearing for the exam,, the difficulty level of the exams, and past years cutoff trends, and thus may be difficult to predict.

8. Is 75 percentile enough in JEE Main?

75 percentile is a good score. Many students will get admission to colleges with this score depending on the category. However, for getting into the top colleges in NITs and IIITs, students must score higher as top-tier colleges’ cutoff remains high.

9. Do I have to fill out a separate application form for each session?

Candidates who have already registered for session 1 are automatically considered as candidates for session 2. The application form remains valid, and the student only needs to pay and register for the second session.
