Key Elements of Democratic Government: Summary of Class 6 Notes
Every person in a democratic government has equal rights. Constitutional law is also uniform across the board. The state of South Africa is described in the first section of Chapter 4 of Class 6 Civics NCERT where South African people were divided under the apartheid laws on the basis of race which comprises of white, black , Indian and other coloured races and under the laws they lived with each other and even used common facilities..
According to previous laws enacted and revised in this country, one race cannot mix with the other. These races were separated from one another. Apartheid laws were created by colonial authorities wherein the best land was reserved for the white people and the worst land was left for the non-whites. This did not change until the formation of the African National Congress. The campaigners spoke against the apartheid laws. . For years, Nelson Mandela, the group’s leader, campaigned tirelessly against the apartheid system. The activists were able to reclaim their equal status.. When this law was repealed, all races were treated equally. In 1994 South Africa became a democratic country.
Participation
Democracy entails that everyone is treated equally. It signifies that a leader will be chosen based on the majority’s decision. An election is conducted to select a democracy’s government. Everyone has the right to elect a specific member from among the representatives through elections. These individuals are chosen to represent the public and take decisions on their behalf. According to the key elements of democratic government Class 6 notes, when making such judgments, the representing leader must consider everyone’s best interests.
This is how a government is formed for a set period. The government is either reelected or replaced in the election based on its performance. In India, a government has five years to demonstrate its competence. The people decide whether or not a group of leaders will remain in power for the following five years. Elections are undertaken regularly to limit the authority of the leaders.
How Can People Participate in Democracy?
In India, elections take place every five years. People can criticise the way a government works for them. They are politically interested and study how a government serves the public in a regime.
Consider this case to see how people react to a government decision. The electricity bill was increased in 2005 for a specific purpose. The general public was unhappy with the decision, and protests and rallies were held to express their displeasure. They organised signature campaigns and rallies to demonstrate their dissatisfaction with the decision. Even though the current government gave its explanation, it had to submit to the authorities. The former version of the electricity bill has been reinstated.
It demonstrates how common people’s attentiveness and awareness may be used to check any misuse of power by the government. The way ordinary people think determines the country’s democratic shape. Various political tools enable ordinary citizens to express their displeasure with a government’s actions.
Resolving Conflict: A Big Concern
In history we can learn how conflicts can spiral out of control if persons in positions of authority do not manage them well. It can cause violence, vandalism, loss of life, chaos, riots, destruction and damage, and can quickly spread between two groups with conflicting interests and opinions.. India is a diverse nation with many languages and religions, which can lead to conflicts between the people belonging to different backgrounds. The government needs to resolve these conflicts in a way that it is able to address the concerns of all while maintaining a balance.
Justice and Equality: The Main Pillar of Democracy
The primary goal of establishing democracy in a society is to treat all citizens equally regardless of caste, religion, or gender. Many societal stigmas and evil practices have been eliminated as new regulations that people must adhere to. They must be well-educated to distinguish between good and evil. They must also determine whether they are politically motivated to make an irrational conclusion.
