(i) Archaeologists use the number objects and their types found in a grave to study the social differences.

(ii) For example, in Brahmagiri, archaeologists have found in one grave a skeleton buried with 33 gold beads, 2 stone beads, 4 copper bangles, and one conch shell, while in other graves skeletons have only a few pots.

(iii) These findings suggest that there was some difference in status amongst the people who were buried.

(i) The life of raja was different from that of a dasa or dasi in many different ways. Raja was a leader who used to rule, while dasa and dasi were captured as slaves to serve their masters.
(ii) Rajas are mentioned in the Rigveda as one of the two important groups along with the brahmins who performed various rituals, while dasa and dasi were not part of important groups.
