CBSE Class VI Computer Science Chapter 12 – Basic Windows Applications

Windows has many utility programs for day-to-day applications and entertainment. These programs are used for editing and formatting text, calculations, drawing, etc. Some of the basic windows applications are: Notepad, WordPad, Calculator and Paint.

Notepad is an application software. It is the text editor program that is used for typing text. The components of Notepad are: Title bar, Menu bar, Minimize, Maximize and Close buttons, Horizontal scroll bar, Vertical scroll bar and Work area. WordPad is a basic text-editing and formatting program. It is commonly used to view, edit and format text files. It allows the user to insert pictures in the documents, use colors when composing text. The components of WordPad are: Title bar, Ribbon, Ruler, Minimize, Maximize and Close buttons, Horizontal scroll bar, Vertical scroll bar and Work area. Windows Calculator is a calculating application included in all the versions of Windows. It is used to perform simple calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The user can perform calculations by clicking the calculator buttons or by typing numbers using keyboard. The user can also use the numeric keypad to type numbers and operators by pressing Num Lock. MS Paint is a feature in Windows that is used to draw, colour, and edit pictures. It is used to create drawings on a blank drawing area or in existing pictures. The main parts of Paint window are: Title bar, Menu bar, Scroll bars, Toolbox and Color Box.
