CBSE Class VII Computer Science Chapter 14 – Surfing Net and Email

Internet is an interconnection of millions of computers over the WWW. It is an information system and a communication tool. ARPANET was the first WAN created by the U.S. Department of Defense. A web browser is the software used to download and display web pages on the computer.

Website is a set of related web pages served from a single web domain. The pages of a website can be accessed from a URL called the web address. Voice chat allows two or more people from opposite ends of the world to talk almost free of cost. Video conference is a live video connection between people in separate locations for the purpose of communication or interaction.

Internet chatting involves real-time instant text messaging between two or more users in chat rooms. Email is a communication service available on the Internet. It is a method in which a message is composed, sent and received through the internet. An email account can be created free of cost using Gmail, Hotmail, or Yahoo.

To view the messages, the user must enter the required credentials such as email address and password to log in. Blog is an easy-to-create web site that allows user to share their thoughts with the world. Blogging can be an interactive activity. Readers can add comments to a bloggers posting, other persons can respond and a conversation ensues. E Cards are the greeting cards sent on the internet usually through emails.
