Types of Fraction
In Class 7 Mathematics Chapter 2 Notes, six types of fractions are discussed. So let us discover them in detail.
- Proper fraction:
In this type of fraction, the value of the numerator is always less than the denominator. It shows the fraction value as a whole.
- Improper fraction:
In an improper fraction, the numerator is always greater than the denominator and shows a combination of proper and whole fraction.
- Mixed fraction:
It is a mixture of whole numbers and fractions.
- Like fraction:
In a like fraction, the value has the same denominators.
- Unlike fractions:
In this type of fraction, they have different values for the denominator.
- Equivalent fraction:
These types of fractions are proportional to each other, which is why they are called equivalent fractions.
Decimals
Values that are used to represent numbers that are smaller than unit 1 are known as decimals. It is also known as the base 10 system, as a power of 10 is written in each place. When a decimal number is multiplied by a whole number, we acquire the same number of digits after the decimal point.
For example: 22.2 X 4 = 88.8
If we multiply a decimal number with a power of 10 then the decimal point will shift to the right by the number of zeros in its power.
For example: 22.22 X 100 = 2222
If a decimal divides a decimal number, then one will get the decimal points in the answer at the same places as the total number of places right to decimal positions in both numbers.
Example: 22.22 X 2.2 = 48.884
