उत्तर : रूप सिंह ने इस गीत का मतलब बताया है कि कोई घास काटने वाली पहाड़ी लड़की कुहरे से सवाल कर रही है कि ऐ कुहरे ऊंची नीची पहाड़ियों में तुम मत जाया करो। इस पर कुहरे घास वाली लड़की से कहता है कि ऐ इन ऊंची पहाड़ियों पर तू न जाया कर। इस प्रकार वह हिलाश नाम के परिंदे को भी आगाह करता है कि वह ऊँची नीची पहाड़ियों में अपना बसेरा ना बनाया करे।

16: ये तो अपने गांव की तोहीन कराना हुआ न। रूप सिंह ऐसा क्यों सोच रहा था ?
उत्तर: जब रूप सिंह और शेखर देवकुंड के बस स्टॉप पर उतरे उस समय रूप ने अपने गांव माही की ओर देखा। माही जाने के लिए आज तक कोई भी सड़क का निर्माण नहीं हुआ था। यह देख कर रूप सिंह सोच में पड़ गया कि वह तो पगडण्डी से भी गांव चला जाये परन्तु अगर कोई साथ हो तो यह सोचना पड़ता है कि अगले की मानसिकता क्या होगी। साथ में आया हुआ व्यक्ति भी कोई ऐसा वैसा नहीं है। दूसरा व्यक्ति उसके गॉड फादर कपूर साहब का बेटा आईएएस ट्रेनी था । अब ऐसे खास मेहमान को अपने गांव पैदल ले जाना रूप सिंह को अपनी और गांव की बेइज़्ज़ती जैसा प्रतीत हो रहा था।

उत्तर : रास्ते में चलते चलते रूप सिंह अचानक एक जगह पर रुक गया और शेखर से कहा ” यही इसी जगह धकेला था मैंने भूप दादा को ” . चौंकते हुए शेखर ने पूछा ” धकेला था ?…….. क्यों? ” फिर रूप उस घटना को दोहराने लगा। ” वो मैं जब घर से भागकर देवकुंड आ रहा था। भूप दादा मुझे खोज रहे थे और इसी स्थान पर मैं पकड़ा गया। मैं फिर से कहीं भाग न जाऊं इसलिए उन्होंने मुझे कलाई से पकड़ रखा था। उनसे छुटकारा पाने के लिए मुझे और कोई तरकीब नहीं सूझी तो मैंने उन्हें यहाँ इसी स्थान पर धक्का दे दिया। वह संभल न पाए और इसी जगह फिसल गए। उनके साथ मैं भी फिसल गया था क्यूंकि उन्होंने मेरी कलाई पकड़ रखी थी।

उत्तर: जब रूप सिंह जवान था , तब उसने अपने पिता और भाई से कुछ नहीं कहा और एक साहब के साथ घर से छुपकर बाहर निकल गया। आज वह कई बरसों के बाद जब घर वापस लौट रहा था। एक तरफ जहाँ अपनेपन की अनुभूति थी , वहीँ दूसरी तरफ घर से छुप कर भाग जाने के कारण वह बहुत ही ज़्यादा शर्मिंदा था। इस बात को समझ नहीं पा रहा था कि वह अपने परिवार से क्या कहेगा।

उत्तर: भूप दादा ने रूप से पूछा कि तुम्हें वह कहानी याद है जो बचपन में बाबा हमें सुनाया करते थे। ” वो एक नन्हीं-सी चिड़िया वाली कहानी। ठीक है अगर तुम्हें वह कहानी याद नहीं है तो मैं तुम्हें आज फिर से वही कहानी सुनाता हूँ – उस कहानी में एक गिद्ध रहता है और वह चिड़िया से कहता है की चिड़िया मैं तुम्हे खा जाऊंगा। गिद्ध के ऐसा कहने पर चिड़िया उससे डर जाती है और पूछती है “क्यों?” इस पर गिद्ध कहता है क्यूंकि तुम मुझसे ऊंचा नहीं उड़ सकती। चिड़िया ने गिद्ध से कहा अगर मैं तुम्हें तुमसे ऊंचा उड़कर दिखा दूँ तो गिद्ध ने कहा कि फिर मैं तुम्हे नहीं खाऊंगा।
फिर दोनों ने मुकाबला शुरू हुआ। उस नन्हीं-सी चिड़िया की इस विशाल गिद्ध के सामने क्या औकात , ऐसे भी मरना और वैसे भी मरना। लेकिन नन्ही-सी चिड़िया ने पूरा ज़ोर लगाकर उड़ान भरी और जाकर गिद्ध की पीठ पर बैठ गयी। गिद्ध उड़ान भरने लगा। वह ऊंचा तो जा रहा था लेकिन चिड़िया के नीचे ही रहता। वह किसी भी हाल में चिड़िया को नहीं हरा पाया और चिड़िया की जान बच गयी।
