‘Bhaktin’ is the title of Chapter 11 of Hindi Aroh from CBSE Class 12. The name given to the chapter’s assistant by author Mahadevi Verma at her request inspired the chapter title. Bhaktin presents herself as Lakshmi, but she is not addressing her by name for some reason. Instead, she asks for his name when Mahadevi calls him Bhaktin. In this chapter, Bhaktin’s life story, now that she is an older woman, is described in four parts.
The first part includes herlife from birth to marriage at age five and her transfer to her stepparents at age nine. Meanwhile, there is the untimely death of her father,of whom she is unaware of because her stepmother did not want to create an atmosphere of mourning in her home.
The second stage includes the birth of her daughters, for which her in-laws ill-treat her. His daughters are forced to do all household chores even when they are young, while his older sisters’ boys receive royal treatment. One way or another, Bhaktin manages to get out of the house with her loving husband and start a new life.
The third part of her life is also distressed by the fact that her oldest daughter, who is married, becomes a widow. Through the plots of Bhaktin’s step parents, his daughter is married to another man who does not treat her well. After her husband’s untimely death, Bhaktin’s property was also snatched away by her in-laws. After the beginning of the fourth phase of his life, Bhaktin decided to become independent and make a living. She began working as a maid for Mahadevi Verma. It becomes an integral part of the writer’s life and sometimes helps her quit her regular job. Thus, the story is a work of inspiration for a character which can seem as common as possible.
