Chapter 5: Rulers and Buildings
Students will study the history of Qutub Minar in this chapter. Students will learn about marvels of engineering skills and technologies used for the construction of the building as well as the processes involved for example use of limestone cement for construction. There were two main kinds of structures: i) palaces, garden residences, forts, and tombs. ii) temple, mosque and tanks. This chapter details the eleventh-century temple construction, including the Kandariya Mahadeva Temple, the Rajarajeshwara Temple in Thanjavur, and other similar temples. Students will also study why these temples were targeted. .
Chapter 6: Towns, Traders and Craftsperson
Towns were based on specific objectives throughout the mediaeval era, such as commercial towns, port towns, administrative hubs, or administrative centres. Some towns had numerous purposes.. Students will learn about temple towns and pilgrimage centres. The pilgrimage town of Thanjavur as administrative centre in Tamil Nadu will be introduced to the students. The network of emerging commercial centres being transformed from small villages to towns, the construction of temples, new towns and traders, as well as architectural wonders of Hampi, Masulipatnam and Surat are covered in this chapter.
Chapter 7: Tribes, Nomads and Settled Communities
Students will learn about life beyond cities. Changes that took place over a period of time weren’t the same everywhere. They will learn why different societies emerged differently. How and why did this happen? While the new artistic, manufacturing, and production enterprises thrived in town even as kingdoms grew and collapsed, in this chapter focuses on the dichotomy between the elite and the poor This chapter describes who were tribal people? Chapter 8: Devotional Paths to the Divine
Students will learn about rituals of worship and other types of devotional songs, kirtans, bhajans or qawwalis, meditation that have developed since the eighth century and are still used in contemporary times chapter 8 of the Class 7 CBSE textbook. Along with other topics, Chapter 9 sheds some light on the growth of miniature paintings, development of the Bengali language and pirs and temples.
Chapter 10: Eighteenth-Century Political Formations
In the first half of the eighteenth century, the Mughal empire started disintegrating, the rise of independent kingdoms, the British gaining control in eastern India which dramatically changed the political conditions in the 18th century. Emergence of new states and the old Mughal provinces -Hyderabad, Awadh and Bengal, Rajputs and their watan jagirs in western India, finally about the Sikhs, the Marathas and the Jats helped in the regional state building around this time.
