ICSE Important Questions for Class 10 Physics – Important notes
Six units covering the foundations of Physics make up the first part of the Class 10 Physics syllabus. We will go through the units briefly here:
Chapter 1: Force, Work, Power, and Energy
(i) Concept of turning forces; the moment of a force, the forces in equilibrium, the centre of gravity.
(ii) Uniform circular motion.
(iii) Work, energy, power and their relation with the forces.
(iv) Different types of energy (e.g. chemical energy, heat energy, Mechanical energy, nuclear energy, electrical energy, light energy, sound energy).
(v) Machines as force multipliers; mechanical advantage, load, effort, velocity ratio, and efficiency; the pulley systems showing the utility of each type of machine.
(vi) Principle of Conservation of energy.
Chapter 2: Light
(i) Refraction of the light through a glass block and a triangular prism – the qualitative treatment of the simple applications such as the real and apparent depth of the objects in water and the apparent bending of the sticks in water. The use of light refraction in applications(ii) Total internal reflection: the critical angle; examples in the triangular glass prisms; comparison with the reflection from a plane mirror (qualitative only). Applications of total internal reflection.
(iii) Lenses (converging and diverging) including their characteristics of the images formed (using the ray diagrams only); magnifying glass; location of the images using ray diagrams, and thereby determining their magnification.
(iv) Using a triangular prism to produce a visible spectrum from the white light; Electromagnetic spectrum. Scattering of light.
Chapter 3: Sound
(i) Reflection of the Sound Waves; echoes: their use; some simple numerical problems on the concept of echoes.
(ii) Damped vibrations, Natural vibrations, Forced vibrations and Resonance – a special case of the forced vibrations.
(iii) Loudness, pitch and the quality of sound.
Chapter 4: Electricity and Magnetism
