• Seeing patterns, identifying and formulating rules for the operations on numbers.
1. ### Negative Numbers and Integers

• Need for the negative numbers.
• Connection of the negative numbers in daily life.
• Representation of negative numbers on the number line.
• Ordering of the negative numbers, Integers.
• Identification of integers on the number line,
• Operation of addition and subtraction of the integers,
• Addition and subtraction of integers on the number line
• Comparison of the integers,
• ordering of integers.
1. ### Sets

• The idea of sets.
• Representation of sets.
• Types of sets: Finite/infinite and empty.
• The cardinality of a set.
1. ### Fractions

• Revision of what a fraction is.
• Fractions as a part of the whole.
• Representation of fractions (pictorially and on the number line).
• Fraction as a division.
• Proper, improper & the mixed fractions.
• Equivalent fractions.
• Comparison of the fractions,
• Operations on the fractions (Avoid large and complicated unnecessary tasks). (Moving towards abstraction in the fractions).
• Review of the idea of a decimal fraction.
• The Place value in the context of a decimal fraction.
• Interconversion of fractions and the decimal fractions (avoid recurring decimals at this stage).
• Word problems involving addition and subtraction of the decimals (two operations together on money, length, mass, and temperature).
1. ### Playing with the numbers

• Simplification of the brackets.
• Multiples and factors,
• divisibility rule of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 6, 9, 10, 11. (All these through the observing patterns. Children would be guided in deducing some before being asked to do so for some basic combinations of the patterns of divisibility
• , such as even/odd and prime/composite numbers. Every number can be expressed as a product of prime factors, including co-prime numbers.
• The properties LCM HCF = product of two integers, prime factor
• isation for HCF and LCM, and division method for HCF and LCM.

Chapter 2: Ratio and Proportion

The topics covered in this unit are:

• Difference between Ratio and Fraction.
• Concept of Ratio.
• Proportion is the equality of two ratios.
• Unitary method (with only direct variation implied).
• Word problems on ratio and proportions.
• The idea of a percent as a fraction with 100 as the denominator
• The idea of speed and simple daily life problems related to speed, time and distance.

Chapter 3: Algebra

The topics covered in this unit are:

• Introduction to constants, variables and unknowns through the patterns, appropriate word problems and generalisations. (For example 1+3=22, 1+3+5=32, 1+3+5+7=42 , sum of first n odd numbers = n2.).
• Generate similar patterns with more examples and generalisations.
• Introduction to the unknowns through examples with simple contexts (single operations)
• Terminology associated with algebra- like literal numbers, terms, factors, coefficients, polynomials, degrees, expressions, and like and unlike terms.
• Framing of the algebraic expressions.
• Evaluation of the algebraic expressions by substituting a value for the variable.
• Introduction to a linear equation in one variable.

Chapter 4: Geometry

The topics covered in this unit are:

• ### Basic geometrical ideas (2-D)

• Introduction to geometry. Its linkage with and the reflection in everyday experiences.
• Line, ray, line segment.
• Open and closed figures.
• Interior and the exterior closed figure.
• Curvilinear and linear boundaries.
• Angle – Arm, vertex, exterior and interior.
• Triangle – vertices, angles, sides, interior and exterior,  median and altitude.
• Quadrilaterals – Sides, angles, diagonals, vertices, adjacent sides and opposite sides (only convex quadrilaterals are to be discussed), interior and exterior of a quadrilateral.
• Circle – Centre,  arc, sector, chord, radius, diameter, segment, semicircle, circumference, interior and exterior.
• ### Understanding Elementary Shapes (2-D and 3-D)

• The measure of Line Segment,
• The measure of angles.
• Pair of lines – Intersecting and the perpendicular lines, Parallel lines.
• Types of Angles – Acute, obtuse, reflex, right, straight, complete and zero angles.
• Classification of triangles on the basis of sides and angles.
• Types of quadrilaterals – Trapezium, parallelogram, rectangle, square, rhombus.
• Identification of 3-D shapes: Cubes, Cuboids, cylinders, spheres, cones, prism (triangular and square), pyramid (triangular and square), Identification and location in the surroundings.
• Elements of 3-D figures. (Faces, Edges and vertices).
• Nets for cubes, cuboids,  cones, cylinders, and tetrahedrons.
• ### Constructions (reflection)

• Observation and Identification of the 2-D symmetrical objects for reflection symmetry.
• Operation of reflection (taking mirror images) of the simple 2-D objects.
• Recognising the reflection symmetry (identifying axes).
• ### Constructions (using Straight edge Scale, protractor, compasses)

• Drawing of a line segment.
• Perpendicular bisector.
• Construction of angles (using a protractor).
• Angle 60°, 120° (Draw Using Compasses)
• Angle bisector- making angles of 30°, 45°, 90° etc. (using the compasses).
• An angle equal to a given angle (using a compass.)
• Drawing a line perpendicular to the given line from a point a) on the line and b) outside the line.
• Construction of circle.

Chapter 5: Mensuration

The topics covered in this unit are:

1. Concept of perimeter and introduction to the area
2. Introduction and a general understanding of the perimeter using many shapes.
3. Shapes of different types with the same perimeter.
4. Concept of area, Area of a rectangle and area of square
5. Conversion of units (Mass,  money, time, and capacity) from smaller to larger and vice-versa
6. Counterexamples of different misconceptions related to perimeter and area.
7. The perimeter of a rectangle – and its special case – and a square.
8. Deducing the formula of the perimeter for a rectangle and a square through patterns and generalisation.

Chapter 6: Data Handling

The topics covered in this unit are:

• Collection of the data to examine a hypothesis
• Collection and organisation of the data – examples of organising it in tally bars and a table.
• Pictograph- Need for scaling in the pictographs interpretation & construction of pictograph
• Construction of bar graphs for given data interpreting bar graphs.
• Mean of data not having more than ten observations
