In the second chapter, students learn about the land, soil, and water, their use, availability, conservation, factors affecting soil formation, water scarcity, natural vegetation, and wildlife.

Moving on to the fourth chapter, students learn about agriculture, the farm system, primary, secondary, and tertiary activities, types of farming, agricultural developments, and major crops, among other things. 

The next chapter introduces students to industries, their purpose, needs, etc. Students learn in-depth to group industries based on ownership, raw materials, industrial systems, cotton textiles, and iron and steel industries. 

The last chapter discusses humans as a resource, their population, distribution, factors affecting their population, causes and patterns of population change, birth rate, mortality rate, life expectancy rate, etc. 

  1. Samajik Avam Rajnatik Jeevan 

This book has ten chapters. The first chapter introduces students to the Indian Constitution. They also learn about federalism, fundamental rights, and secularism. 

The second chapter digs into secularism and explains its importance and definition. Students learn about the need for a parliament and the nationalist movements. Next, students understand the concept of the rule of law, the country’s legal structure, why we need such laws and how the Parliament makes laws. 

The next chapter informs them about the judiciary system of the country to make laws, its functions, and the need for an independent judiciary. They learn about some famous cases, the meaning of Public Interest Litigation, and fundamental rights in detail. The Class 8 Social and Political Life Book in Hindi also educates about the criminal justice system, fair trials, and the role of police, public prosecutor, and judge. It highlights the role of Public interest litigation (PIL) and the consequences of delayed justice. 

The seventh chapter explains the concept of marginalisation and minority in social and political contexts. They learn why it is essential for the Constitution to protect minorities. Students also learn about the different tribes of our country, how Dalits can fight for their dignity, several acts introduced to safeguard the Scheduled Caste (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs), etc.  

The ninth chapter makes students aware of public and private facilities like hospitals and schools. The last chapter talks about law and social justice, enforcement of the law, the government’s role in regulating the actions of private firms and environmental pollution.    

  1. Hamare Atit-III 

This book handholds the students to the country’s history through several topics organised and divided into ten chapters. 

The subject starts by explaining to the students the importance of specific historical dates. It then introduces them to colonial governments and helps them understand the importance and credibility of historical records. 

The second chapter introduces students to the advent of the East India Company and how it expanded its rule by fighting several battles and finally establishing a new system of administration. The third chapter also explains in detail the company and its revenue sources. The chapter also focuses on the agricultural practices of that time, the Munro system, the demand for Indian indigo, the Blue Rebellion, etc. 

The fourth chapter focuses on the lives of tribal groups, jhum cultivators, gatherers, and hunters and how colonial rule affected tribal lives. The students also learn about settled cultivation, forest laws, problems with trade, etc. 

The fifth chapter teaches them about the famous people who rebelled against the British, like Rani Lakshmibai, Bahadur Shah Zafar and how a  mutiny became a popular rebellion .. This chapter also shows students the growth of the East India Company and how the British Crown gained control of the country’s administration. 

The sixth chapter sheds light on the weavers, iron smelters, and factory owners of that period. The chapter elaborates on how the Indian weavers witnessed downfall due to the suppression by the British textile industry, and the iron and steel industry gradually gained prominence. 

Students also learn about the effort made by the British to educate the native Indians, the local schools, Mahatma Gandhi, and Rabindranath Tagore’s views on English education, among other things. Gradually, they become aware of the social reforms brought by famous personalities to offer a dignified life and equal rights to women and people of lower castes. 

The ninth chapter speaks of several movements in India established to fight against  British rule and how finally, the freedom fighters managed to gain independence, and the partition took place. The last chapter talks about the newly independent India, the Constitution, the formation of states, the challenges of a new and divided nation and the plans made by the government for its development.
