The chapter, Making Pots Class 3 EVS is Based on the Bhojpuri story written by Annapurna Sinha. The lesson attempts to teach the children about the process of making a pot. This is done by means of a short story that revolves around a crow and a sparrow.

A crow called Bhanate and a sparrow named Phugudi are the main characters of the story. The two are very good friends. One day they strike a deal that whoever lays their eggs first, the other one will get to eat them. So, if Bhanate lays her eggs first Phugudi eats them, and vice-versa. It so happens that soon after Phugudi lays an egg. As per the deal, Bhanate reaches the spot to eat her eggs. However, Phugudi gets scared and in order to protect her eggs asks the crow to wash her beak in the river before eating the egg.

Bhanate agrees to the condition and heads to the river to wash her beak. At the river, she requests the river to give her some cold water so she can wash her beak and eat the sparrow’s egg. The river tells her to first fetch a pot so she can give her the water. Hearing this the crow rushes to the potter and requests a pot so she can fill water from the river, wash her beak and eat Phugudi’s egg. The potter agrees to help but tells Bhanate that he needs clay from the clay pit to make a pot. So Bhanate flies to the clay pit to ask for clay. The clay pit tells her that digging clay is possible only with the help of a trowel. The crow then goes to the blacksmith to arrange for a trowel. The blacksmith hands her the trowel on the condition that she will return it immediately as soon as the task is completed.

Bhanate now takes the trowel to the pit, digs the clay, and carries it to the potter who makes a pot for her. She then goes to the river with the pot, fills in water and washes her beak. Once Bhanate’s beak is washed, she flies back to eat Phugudi’s egg. However, by then the sparrow’s egg has already hatched. The little bird flies away to a safe spot and Bhanate does not get to eat the egg.

As we can see, the Class 3 EVS Chapter 15 briefly explains the raw materials that go into making a pot and the process involved in it. We now know that the blacksmith makes tools while the potter makes the pot. Clay dug from a clay pit is used in the making of pots.

3. What do Making Pots Class 3 Worksheets teach us?

The chapter aims to explain the process of pot making to the children. It mentions the various people involved in pot making as well as the resources used in the process. There are several other messages too in the chapter. It talks about the importance of quick thinking to avert a problem, as displayed by Phugudi to protect her egg from Bhanate. It also reveals the importance of pots for storing food and liquids and how their invention has made life easier for us. We also learn that to make any product we need the help of people with different skills. Like in the chapter, a trowel is needed to dig the clay to make the pot. Trowels are made by blacksmiths while pots are made by potters. If there was no trowel it would have been difficult for Bhanate to dig the clay required to make the pot. Hence, the creation of a pot depends on more than one person.
