Note: All the language skills namely listening, speaking, reading and writing along with their sub skills will have to be developed in students using the content given in the text books. Equally important is developing students’ vocabulary and grammar by conducting various activities given in the prescribed text books.

As we cannot make much compromise with the syllabus, none of the skills and the related competencies can be neglected in any grade. However, the content load is reduced depending on the number of days/hours available for transacting the content.

Considering the above aspects the following changes are to be noted:

  1. Number of teaching periods as per the syllabus is taken as 200 and the portions are completed by February (March and April months are not taken for calculation).
  2. Since the working days are reduced to 120 days, a few Prose, poetry and supplementary units are deleted which require more number of teaching periods.
  3. As the number of working days is reduced for this academic year, the teaching periods for each unit are also reduced accordingly.
  4. The units that are deleted for this academic year (2020-21), should not be considered while preparing the question paper for Board Examination and CCE Activities.
  5. Due to time Constraint, some exercises and activities that are simple and repetitive are recommended for Home assignment under the guidance of the teacher.
  6. Units deleted: Prose 8: Village Cricket Match
