Unit 1: Management of Sporting Events

Management of Sporting Events covers the planning and conduct of sports events. It includes the functions of sports event management: planning, organising, staffing, directing and controlling.

Students also study committees and their responsibilities before, during and after an event. Fixtures, knock-out tournaments, league tournaments, staircase method, cyclic method, tabular method and combination tournaments are included.

The unit also covers strategies to make physical activities accessible for Children with Special Needs. It includes the role of counsellor, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, physical education teacher, speech therapist and special educator.

Unit 5: Sports and Nutrition

Sports and Nutrition covers balanced diet and nutrition. Students study macro nutrients, micro nutrients, nutritive components and non-nutritive components of diet.

The unit also covers eating for weight control. Food habits, healthy diet and food myths are part of this section.

Unit 6: Test and Measurement in Sports

Test and Measurement in Sports covers fitness testing and body measurements. Students need to know test procedures, calculation and interpretation.

Important areas include SAI Khelo India Fitness Test, BMI, Harvard Step Test, Rockport Test, Basal Metabolic Rate and Rikli and Jones Senior Citizen Fitness Test. Johnsen-Methney Test of Motor Educability is also included.

Unit 7: Physiology and Injuries in Sport

Physiology and Injuries in Sport covers the physiological factors that determine physical fitness. It explains the effects of exercise on the muscular system and cardio-respiratory system.

The unit also includes physiological changes due to ageing. Sports injuries include soft tissue injuries, bone injuries and joint injuries. First aid and injury management are important parts of this unit.

Unit 8: Biomechanics and Sports

Biomechanics and Sports has the highest theory weightage. It connects physics principles with movement in sports.

Students study Newton’s laws of motion and their application in sports. Types of levers, equilibrium, centre of gravity, friction and projectile in sports are also included.

Unit 9: Psychology and Sports

Psychology and Sports covers personality, motivation, aggression and exercise adherence. It helps students understand behaviour in sports situations.

The unit includes Jung classification, Big Five theory, types of motivation and strategies to improve exercise adherence. Psychological attributes such as self-esteem, mental imagery, self-talk and goal setting are also part of the syllabus.

Unit 10: Training in Sports

Training in Sports covers talent identification and talent development. It also explains training cycles such as micro, meso and macro cycles.

Students study strength, endurance, speed, flexibility and coordinative ability. Circuit training and its importance are also included.
