### Key Topics Covered in NCERT Solution for Class 4 Maths Chapter 4

NCERT Solutions for Class 4 Mathematics Chapter 4 introduces students to the concept of time, different applications of time, how the watch works, how many hands does the clock have  and what these hands represent, and how to read  the time correctly using an analogue clock. Furthermore, students will also learn the difference between day and night.

How to tell time: Time is always measured in hours and minutes. There are 60 seconds in 1 minute. Therefore, 60 minutes make 1 hour, and 24 hours make 1 day.

To tell time on the clock, one must look for an hour and minute hand. The hour is shown by  the shorter hand , whereas the minute is indicated by the longer hand.

Example:

When the hour hand points at 3 and the minute hand points at 12, the time is 3 ‘o’clock. Similarly, when the shorter hand points at 5 and the long hand points at 3, the time is 5:15pm.

For young students understanding the mechanics of clock and time might be a bit hard. So Extramarks has used a lot of visual demonstrations and illustrations to make learning easier for the students. Refer to our NCERT Solutions for Class 4 Mathematics Chapter 4 to get more information.

Time of the Day: Numbers tell the exact time, but in our daily life, we talk about the general time of the day instead of a specific time.

• Morning: it is between 12:00am- 12:00pm
• Noon: It means 12:00 pm, or midday .
• Afternoon: It is between 12:00pm- 4:00pm.
• Evening: It is from  4:00 pm till  sunset.

We have included  engaging  self-activities in our NCERT Solutions for Class 4 Mathematics Chapter 4 to make it a part of experiential learning.

Time notation – AM and PM: when one says 5 ‘o’clock, one should let the person know it is a.m. (morning) or p.m. (night). A.M is “ante meridiem”, which means before noon, and P.M is “post meridiem”, which means afternoon.

Time conversion: To convert minutes to hours, divide the minutes by 60.

Example:

540 minutes means 540/60= 9 hours

To convert hours to minutes, multiply given hours with 60

24 hours means 1440 minutes. 24×60= 1440
