India After Independence

Partition of India led to the Birth of Pakistan, followed by riots while Gandhiji opposed the partition of India. Eight million refugees crossed the border to settle in India. Integration of Princely States Instrument of accession was drafted by Patel, asked all 562 princely states to join the Indian Union. Gandhiji’s death was regarded as an international catastrophe, stopped the communal violence in India. Constituent Assembly members were elected to write the Constitution of India, the Indian Constitution was adopted by Constituent Assembly on 26th November 1949 AD, became effective from 26th January 1950 AD. Our Constitution ensures the equality, Universal Adult Franchise, Autonomy in the States. General election of 1952 had no precedent in the world history. Both Gandhiji and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar worked to remove Untouchability.

The Drafting Committee on Centre-State Relations proposed a strong centre for the well being of the country. There are three Lists of Union List, State List, and Concurrent List. Both Hindi and English are official languages. Different states were created on the linguistic basis. Development and Growth of India was affected by the colonial rule. India is endowed with rich natural resources. The Planning Commission of India was formed in March 1950. Indian Foreign policy with her neighbouring countries is based on cooperation and mutual trust. India’s Future in the Modern World is good. Government is making all kinds of efforts to reduce the gap between rural–urban and rich–poor.
