Static friction coefficients vary according to the objects causing friction. Generally, its value lies between 0 and 1, but it can also be higher. A value of 0 indicates that there is no friction between two objects. There will always be some friction between objects when they come into contact. When the frictional force equals the normal force, the value is 1. Many people believe that coefficients of friction are limited to values between zero and one. It is possible for silicone rubber to have a coefficient of static friction much greater than one since the frictional force is stronger than the normal force.
