CAT Exam Eligibility Criteria 

The CAT or the CAT Full Form – Common Admission Test has some admission criteria-

• Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree, or its equivalent, in any discipline from an accredited university to be eligible for the CAT.
• Candidates must have received a graduation grade of at least 50%. The required minimum overall score for candidates in the reserved category is 45%.
• The CAT or the CAT Full Form- Common Admission Test, is open to students who are in their last year of study for their graduate degree.
• Candidates who hold degrees in CA, CS, or ICWA also meet the CAT qualifying requirements.
• The CAT exam allows for an unlimited number of attempts.
• 2021 saw the elimination of the requirements for minimum grades in order to take the CAT entrance exam, and new eligibility rules were introduced in 2022.
• To guarantee that candidates who earned their bachelor’s degrees in 2020 and 2021 are fairly represented, this exception was made. Instead of entering their grades, candidates might choose “Promotion/Pass” on the CAT application form.

Required Documents For The CAT 2022 Application Form:

• The results of the examinations of classes 10 and 12, a bachelor’s degree, or a transcript from another level of school are mandatory documents for appearing in the CAT exam.
• Students are required to download the caste certificate from the CAT website if they fall under the NC-OBC, SC, or ST categories, fill out the necessary information, self-attest it, and upload a scanned copy of the certificate as a PDF file.
• Students are required to download the PwD certificate from the CAT website, fill it out, self-attest it, and provide a scanned copy of it as a PDF file if they fall under the PwD category.
• The photo and signature must be less than 80 KB in size and in the.jpeg/.jpg format, respectively. Notably, the required Image Resolution is 150 pixels per inch.

CAT Exam Pattern 

The CAT Exam, or the CAT Full Form – Common Admission Test is a computer-based test that is administered online. The CAT exam schedule was changed in 2020. Earlier, the examination had to be finished within a time duration of 180 minutes or three hours, and students were required to attempt 100 questions. In the current CAT format, or CAT Full Form – Common Admission Test, the test lasts 120 minutes, or two hours, with a 40-minute sectional time limit.

• Only the English language is used to administer the CAT Exam.
• There are three areas on the test: VARC, DILR, and QA.
• In order to pass the CAT exam, candidates must correctly answer both Multiple Choice Questions and non-Multiple Choice Questions.
• Each part has a time constraint that applies to it.
• Every incorrect response receives a mark reduction of one, while each correct response is worth three points.

CAT Admission Process 

There is a set of rules and a fixed process that has to be followed to clear the CAT or the CAT Full Form – Common Admission Test –

Level 1:

• Entrance examinations for CAT are completed by students. After this, the IIM announces the cutoffs for each section and the total cutoff.
• Based on performance, the candidate is selected for entrance in further rounds.
• Each IIM announces their CAT or the CAT Full Form – Common Admission Test cutoffs individually.

Level 2:

• GD (group discussion) and/or WAT

Level 3:

• Personal Interview (PI)

The final round is a personal interview where candidates are assessed – knowledge, communication skills, overall academic performance, previous round performance, and common sense.
