The first section of this Chapter explains the Class party. The school reopened after the vacation, and the children returned to school. They were discussing their holidays and the fun they had during vacation. Aarti had attended a wedding, and she was telling her friends that the feast they had together was fun and she enjoyed different dishes. The kids decided to have a party, bring food from their home, and share it. They will be eating Cheva rice and Bora rice, which is the speciality during the season of harvesting. Some go to the market to purchase meat, fish, and vegetables, and few are busy making a sweet dish known as pitha.

In the evening, they wear their Assamese dress and mekhala chador, traditional. They played, danced, sang, and played the drums around the bonfire. The treat is served on the banana leaf. All sit together and have their food. It is fun in the evening at Sonmani’s village.
