1. Bamboo Bridge:

In some areas, there is heavy rainfall, due to which people have difficulty going from one place to another. They make use of bamboo bridges during such times. Kids make use of a bamboo bridge to reach school, and the same has been briefly explained in NCERT Solutions for Class 4 EVS Chapter 1.

2. The Trolley:

Every day, students in Ladakh use Trolleys to cross the wide and deep river to reach school. Strong iron ropes are tightly tied to trees or rocks. The ropes are tied across the river. An open box made of wood or trolley is attached to the rope. Four to five students sit on the trolley, and a pulley pulls it to move across the rope as they reach over to the other side of the river in a short time.

3. The Cement Bridge:

Under this section of NCERT Solutions for Class 4 EVS Chapter 1, students learn about cement bridges. We often have to go across some water bodies; hence we use bridges. These bridges are made of cement, iron rods and bricks. Sometimes the bridges can also have steps.

The difference between the cement bridge and bamboo bridge:

  • A cement bridge is made of cement, iron rods and bricks. A bamboo bridge is made up of bamboo sticks and ropes.
  • The cement bridge is much stronger compared to the bamboo bridge.
  • Cement bridges can bear the weight of heavy vehicles like trucks, buses, etc. But the bamboo bridge cannot handle the heavyweight.

4. The Vallam:

In a few parts of Kerala, children use a vallam (small wooden boat) to reach schools. It is a traditional boat used to cross small rivers and lakes. More information on the vallam is mentioned in NCERT Solutions for Class 4 EVS Chapter 1.

5. Camel Cart:

There is sand all around Rajasthan as it is a desert area. It gets very hot during the day. To reach the schools, children ride the camel cart there.

6. Bullock Cart:

Village children ride in a bullock cart; it goes slowly through the green fields. Few of the carts have a roof. If it is too sunny/raining, kids use umbrellas.

7. Bicycle Ride:

Children ride bicycles on the long road to reach school. Earlier, girls here did not go to school because the school was too far. But now, groups of 7 to 8 girls easily ride even through the difficult roads.

8. Jugad – What a Vehicle! :

Jugad is made up of using limited resources with minimal expenses in an innovative way. It looks like special transport. It makes a sound of phut-phut-phut when it runs. The front of the jugad looks like a motorcycle, but the carriage at the back is made out of planks of wood. Students may refer to various study materials in addition to NCERT Solutions for Class 4 EVS Chapter 1 to learn more about Jugad.

9. Children cross the Jungle:

Children have to go through a thick and dark forest to go to school. Sometimes the jungle is so dense that it gets completely dark and silent.

10. Moving on the Snow:

In the Northern hills, children travel to school through miles of snow. They hold each other’s hands and walk carefully. If the snow is soft, the feet sink into it. When the snow is frozen, they can slip and fall; hence they have to stay very careful.

11. Rocky Paths:

Under this section of NCERT Solutions for Class 4 EVS Chapter 1, students learn about rocky paths. Children live in the mountains in many parts of Uttarakhand. The paths are rocky and uneven. The children who live on the plains will find it difficult to walk on them. But children living in mountains can easily race up and down.

No matter how the climate and area is, the children manage to reach school, whether it’s dense forest, snow or mountains on their way.
