A Big Move

Chetandas talks about his childhood. They moved from Dera Gazikhan (Pakistan) to a place near Delhi. Initially, he was sad to leave his home and his village. Many people from India went to Pakistan just like they moved to India. Initially, they all stayed in a camp, in big tents put up on the huge ground.

 A New Home

They had got some land in Sohna village. They were allowed to build a home there, and he was very happy. He and his family together built a home for themselves, and they loved it and stayed in it happily.

A Changing House

Time passed rapidly, and he completed his studies and got a job. His parents wanted him to get married, but before he got married, he wanted to build one more room, and he used cement to build that room to make it stronger. They used iron and cement to make the roof of the new room. In those days, unbaked bricks were available in the market, and they made the walls with those bricks. Once a year, they would whitewash the walls. They also built a small kitchen in the courtyard.

More Changes

Days passed by, and he got married and had two sons and a daughter. His children completed their education, and his daughter Simi got married and moved to Palwal. When his son Raju was to get married, they wanted to furnish the home before the new bride came home. They used marble chips and cement for fancy flooring. The kitchen was made bigger, and the new bride used a gas stove for cooking and not clay chulha.

His younger son Montu moved to Delhi when he got a job there. He stayed there with his family. He and Suman stayed with Montu for some months in a year and with Raju in Sohna for the rest of the time.
