Key Topics Covered In NCERT Solutions for Class 4 EVS Chapter 24

The chapter starts by describing the events and activities at Maalu’s home. Chittappan and his family were returning home after five long years. Chittappan got an offer from Abu Dhabi five years ago, and since then, he has been living there with his family; he has two kids named Shanta and Shashi. Maalu and her father had been to the airport to receive them. After landing, Maalu asked Shanta if she was tired after their long journey as Abu Dhabi is far from India.

Maalu remembered about her school trip to Chennai; they had spent almost 12 hours in the train to reach there. On the map, Kochi and Chennai seemed very near. Maalu, Sashi and Shanta chit-chatted back to their home from the airport. Maalu recollected how much fun they had during her school trips. This part of the story is covered with a few pictures of different cities in our NCERT Solutions for Class 4 EVS Chapter 24. The imagery, along with narratives, make learning more interesting for students.

Dust All-Around

Maalu asked, “Did she see interesting things from the plane?” Shanta replied that they saw only clouds because the plane was flying so high, even higher than the clouds” But before the plane flew high, they could see the sandy areas, and the colour of the sand kept changing to white, yellow, brown, black and red. Mountains made only of sand were seen; they are called dunes,” added Shashi.

“The countries near Abu Dhabi are located in a desert area. As we can see only sand miles and miles, no trees, or greenery but only sand.” and dreamt of the thick greenery and cool water around our home in Kerala,” said Kunjamma. She said, “I am so happy to see all this after so long.” They have almost forgotten how it feels when it rains. As it hardly rains in the desert, said her uncle Chittappan. Water is very precious in Abu Dhabi as there is no rain, no lakes, no rivers, or ponds. There is no water even underneath the ground.” Shashi interrupted that “there is a lot of oil under the sandy soil there. Hence petrol is easily accessible in these countries.” “Petrol is much cheaper than water,” said Chittappan.

Talking and chit-chatting, they reached Maalu’s home. Shanta and Shashi were happy to see so many fruit trees, coconuts, bananas, jackfruit, papaya, betelnut and many more trees! Shashi said they saw one tree and that it was a date palm as it is the only one that can grow in the desert. The date is the most common fruit.”

Different countries have different natural resources, lifestyles and cultures. Extramarks team has given additional information about these countries in our NCERT Solutions for Class 4 EVS Chapter 24.

Nice Gifts and Photographs!

After meeting everyone, they unpacked their luggage bags. They had carried gifts for everyone. They gave dates to eat, and they were very tasty and sweet. Shashi showed Maalu a few notes and coins that their currency in Abu Dhabi was different from India, known as Dirham. Dirham had writings in their local language of Arabic. Students can learn more about the Indian and Abu Dhabi currencies from our NCERT Solutions for Class 4 EVS Chapter 24.

During the evening, everyone sat on the verandah, enjoyed the cool breeze, and looked at the photographs of Abu Dhabi. They saw that the buildings were tall and had huge windows made of glass. Chittappan said, “they can not open the windows there as it is very hot. People use air-conditioning inside the home. Maalu was happy looking at the pictures and learning more about Abu Dhabi from her cousins. Maalu decided that she would make a project report about Abu Dhabi for her class.
